Welcome, GameRadius! - Posted by ButtaKnife on June 23, 2010

Most of the dust seems to have cleared, and we're finally able to take a minute and inform everyone about all of the excitement from last night!

At 8 PM Eastern, we officially merged with the GameRadius IRC network. We've spent the last few weeks talking with the GameRadius staff and working on the code that was required to ensure a smooth transition for the users of both networks. We're very happy with the result, and we're excited to welcome GameRadius users to Global Gamers!

GameRadius users should be sure to check out www.gameradius.net for important differences and new features.

Global Gamers users will notice some new faces in #GlobalGamers as well. terminal, X-LP, and andromeda have joined staff, and several people from GameRadius have voice status.

Also, we are currently testing two new servers, blackmesa (provided by terminal) and boss (provided by X-LP), for network routing.

While we were working on the code for the merge, we fixed a couple of minor bugs in our clan services which prevented channels' CHALLENGE settings from being saved properly. We also added new functionality to the ROSTER setting, so clan leaders can set up separate rosters for divisions within the same clan (for example, if your roster for UT needs to be different than your roster for TF2). You can find more information about the new ROSTER feature in the Clan Services Guide.

Of course, there were a few minor bumps during the merge process. Auto-Op and Auto-Voice settings were not properly preserved when bringing in the GameRadius database, so we had to enable Auto-Op and Auto-Voice across the network in order to resolve the issue. Consequently, those of you who previously had Auto-Op or Auto-Voice disabled in your channels may have to disable it again.

We experienced some server issues, one outage from pantheon (in Germany) and a few others late at night from one of the new servers, boss (in California). We are checking into these outages, and we will update when we know more.

Thanks to Murphy's Law, we also discovered a very rare bug related to staff access in services, which could only be triggered under completely bizarre circumstances. We will be fixing the bug in the next services update.

Despite the small mishaps, everything seems to be running smoothly. We think that combining the UTChat and GameRadius communities will strengthen the UT community as a whole, and we couldn't be happier with the outcome.

Thank you all for your patience and support! To all of the GameRadius users, we hope you enjoy your time on Global Gamers. :)
