Welcome
Global Gamers is an IRC network that was formed on one simple concept: gaming should be fun! Whether you live for annihilating the competition in a free-for-all FPS or you sneak in a game of Solitaire when your friends aren't watching, we understand. We know games are there to be enjoyed, and we don't want to complicate something that's supposed to be a source of entertainment...

Global Gamers Network News
Services updates - Posted by ButtaKnife on July 4, 2010
We did a couple of tweaks to services today:
- We updated the encryption algorithm that is used for storing account passwords. All old accounts will be updated to the new algorithm upon authing. New accounts will use the new encryption by default.
- The users who recently joined us from GameRadius will now be able to log in to the website using their NickServ account information after their password encryption has been updated.
- Some users may see a message telling them they need to auth to NickServ on the network before they can log in to the website. This is just to update your password encryption.
- Users from GameRadius who were registered on Global Gamers before the merge can now get their old GameRadius registration dates restored. Our merge code didn't previously allow for registration dates being copied over in duplicate accounts. Thanks to altgamer for pointing this out!
- Users who connect to the network through the Unreal Tournament chat client will now automatically receive messages from NickServ via private message, not notice. Anyone who uses a UT client who wants to use notices can register a NickServ account and type /ns SET PRIVMSG OFF to disable the private message setting. Thanks to kTo|Pegasus for this suggestion!

Silent Gamers Quake II Classic Cup - COMPLETE! - Posted by ButtaKnife on June 28, 2010
After a frag frenzy this past weekend, the Silent Gamers Quake II Classic Cup has finally come to an end!
naymlis arose as the undefeated champion of a 32-man bracket in the grand finals tonight, and adrenal1ne managed to steal 2nd place after a vicious battle with f0cus yesterday. Jehar and RottenRose of TastyCast provided some amazing video coverage, along with gnnr co-casting several matches (complete with RoboCop voice), and we wholeheartedly recommend that you head over to their site to watch the archived footage!
There were ragequits, trash-talking challenges, mid-air frags, shutouts, suicides, and enough flying body parts to keep a zombie happy for months. It was unbelievable to see so much love for a game that's nearly 13 years old. We were honored to have the opportunity to sponsor prizes for 1st and 2nd place, and we hope to see many more Quake II tournaments happen as a result. This tournament made it absolutely clear that there's still plenty of interest in the game.
An effort of this magnitude wouldn't have been possible without the loyal support of many people. We extend our congratulations to the winners, and also our heartfelt thanks to everyone else who participated and made this event possible!
Of course, thank you also to Silent Gamers for hosting the event (Shun, gnnr, RailWolf, island55, and anyone else we may have missed!), TastyCast for providing their usual awesome coverage, tastyspleen.net for offering up servers, and our fellow prize sponsors, east5ide and Vroom Foods! This was a truly memorable event and we can't wait to see where the Quake II community goes from here.
